Samsung SH100.

Introduction

The Samsung SH100 is an ultra compact point-and-shoot digital camera which is equipped with a built-in Wi-Fi. This means that the SH100 allows you to directly send your photos and videos to a specified email address or upload them to social networking sites such as Facebook, Picassa, or Youtube. Of course, you need to be connected to a local Wi-Fi network first in order to send and upload your files directly from the SH100. The SH100 is also compatible with DNLA (Digital Living Network Alliance) that allows data sharing with other DNLA-compatible electronic devices. Using the DNLA technology, you can, for instance, back up your photos and videos to your computer automatically, even while it is in a sleep mode, as long as it supports Wi-Fi connection.

Thanks to its connectivity capabilities, the Samsung SH100 has been crowned as the European Social Media Camera 2011 – 2012 by the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA); however, it is worth noting that the SH100 is not the first digital camera that features a built-in Wi-Fi. So, what makes the SH100 stand out among other digital cameras with built-in Wi-Fi? The SH100 is the first digital camera which is capable of connecting live to an Android smartphone such as the Samsung Galaxy S, or an iPhone. For this purpose, Samsung has launched apps for android smartphones and iPhones which allow you to connect your smartphone to the SH100 wirelessly and use it as a remote controlling device.

By connecting the Samsung SH100 to your smartphone via Wi-Fi, you can see the SH100’s live view feed on your smartphone’s screen in real time, adjust the SH100’s shooting parameters from your smartphone, and then activate the shutter release remotely. Other smartphone-related functions offered by the SH100 include the ability to utilize your smartphone’s GPS feature to determine where a photo was taken. In addition to its impressive connectivity features, the SH100 also offers an easy-to-use user interface in order to attract smartphone users who want to buy a separate digital camera. The SH100’s Smart Touch user interface is made similar to a smart phone’s user interface. It responds to finger commands and allows you to drag and drop items, click icons, or browse media files with a finger swipe.

To make everything even easier, the Samsung SH100 also comes with a Smart Auto 2.0 mode, an exposure mode which automatically chooses the appropriate camera settings in different shooting conditions. Other features of SH100 include a 14-megapixel 1/2.33″ CCD sensor, a 4.7-23.5mm f/3.3-5.9 lens with 5x optical zoom, digital image stabilization system, a 3-inch 16:9 touch LCD screen, 720p video recording capability at 30 fps, wireless LAN connectivity, and a Boingo mobile hotspot provider account for access to more than 200,000 hotspots worldwide.
