Canon EOS Digital Rebel.
I have written a post about the history of Canon digital SLR cameras not long ago, and it is clear that one of the company’s most prominent digital SLR cameras in the past was the Canon EOS Digital Rebel, which was also known as Canon EOS 300D or Canon EOS Kiss Digital in some regions. Introduced in October 2003 with a street price of US$899, the Digital Rebel was a very important product because it was the first digital SLR camera to break the US$1000 barrier; it was also the first camera in the Canon EOS Rebel line.
The Canon EOS Digital Rebel’s plastic body was just one of the elements used to reduce its cost at that time. Other steps taken by Canon to reduce the price of the Digital Rebel included the use of a pentamirror in the viewfinder instead of a pentaprism, and a shifting of manufacturing from Japan to Taiwan. Although the Digital Rebel was the first affordable digital SLR camera, it doesn’t mean that it was a mediocre digital SLR camera. When you take a look at its specifications, it is clear that the Digital Rebel was equipped with features that could be considered very sophisticated for its time.
As we all know, Canon doesn’t sell the EOS Digital Rebel anymore, they are now selling the newer models like the Canon EOS Rebel T3, the Canon EOS Rebel T2i, the Canon EOS Rebel T3i, and the Canon EOS Rebel T4i; however, true photography-lovers or Canon collectors might still be interested in this classic digital SLR camera.
