Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3.
Introduction
Waterproof compact cameras are gaining much popularity in the recent years, and as one of the big players in this market segment, Panasonic keeps on updating its waterproof compact camera line yearly. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3, which is also known as the Panasonic Lumix DMC-FT3 outside the United States, is the company’s third generation waterproof compact camera since it introduced the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS1 three years earlier. Being the direct successor to the highly-regarded Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2, which is still one of the best waterproof compact cameras on the market today, the TS3 has the same price tag as its predecessor, but offers some improvements.
The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 comes in a tougher body, which is now waterproof down to 12 m (40 ft). That is a whole 2 m (6.6 ft) deeper than what the previous Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2 has to offer. The TS3 also offers a better shock-proofing. It is now capable of surviving a drop from a height up to 2 m (6.6 ft), which is 0.5 m (1.6 m) higher than what the TS2 can handle. And of course, like the TS2, the TS3 is also dustproof and freezeproof down to -10 °C (14 °F). Thanks to its improved waterproofing and shock-proofing, the TS3 is now among the toughest waterproof compact cameras available today.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 is available in four different colors.
Along with its improved toughness, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 also comes with an upgraded Venus Engine FHD processor, an improved 1920 x 1080 full High Definition AVCHD video recording capability, and some all-new features that would make it a worthy travel companion for the adventurous types, such an integrated GPS receiver, a digital compass, a barometer, and an altimeter to provide information about the location, the air pressure, and the altitude of where each image were shot. All these features make the TS3 ideal for those who like to capture the moments of their extreme outdoor activities.
Other features of the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS3 remain the same as its predecessor’s, which include a 28-128mm equivalent f/3.3-5.9 Leica DC Vario-Elmar ASPH lens with 4.6x optical zoom and Power Optical Image Stabilizer (O.I.S) technology, and a 2.7-inch 230,000-dot resolution TFT LCD; however, as for the sensor, the TS3 is equipped with a 12.1-megapixel 1/2.33” type CCD sensor, which is lower in terms of resolution compared to the Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS2’s 14.1-megapixel 1/2.33” type CCD sensor. Looking at the TS3’s specifications, it is obvious that Panasonic has concentrated its efforts more on upgrading the toughness and outdoor-functionality of the TS3.
