Performance

In terms of operational speed, the Nikon Coolpix S1100pj is significantly better than the previous Nikon Coolpix S1000pj, but still average for a point-and-shoot digital camera. The S1100pj needs less than 2 seconds from power on to the first shot and even less to focus in most situations. Nikon promised that the battery can last for 220 shots when fully charged. Unfortunately, if you often use the projector function, it will drain the battery quickly and you will only get approximately 100 shots per full charge.

Image Quality

The Nikon Coolpix S1100pj delivers surprisingly crisp images with accurate and natural-looking colors, and thanks to the 14.1-megapixel resolution, you will also miss no details. The S1100pj comes with a sensitivity range of ISO 80 – 1,600. You can expand the sensitivity up to ISO 6,400, but the resolution will be reduced down to 3 megapixels. The S1100pj is a good point-and-shoot digital camera if you use it in good lighting conditions. In low lighting conditions, the S1100pj will not be able to produce perfect images, but this is a usual issue for a point-and-shoot digital camera of its class.

Conclusion

Nikon has done a good job in improving the performance and image quality of the S1100pj to a satisfactory level. Unlike the previous Nikon Coolpix S1000pj, the S1100pj now delivers good-quality images and is now as fast as most point-and-shoot digital cameras in its class. Overall, the S1100pj is still not among the best point-and-shoot digital cameras on the market today; however, its innovative built-in projector is still something special. You should consider getting yourself the S1100pj only if you are interested in showing-off your photos in a new way.
